Fishing lake
Located on the southeastern corner of Olive and 83rd Avenue in Peoria, Arizona, the five acre fishing lake at Pioneer Community Park is a popular destination for residents and visitors. This artificial lake offers periodic chances to catch catfish, trout, bass, and other warm water gamefish species. The lake is stocked with fish throughout the year.
The park’s five-acre urban lake is filled with water from the Butler Water Reclamation Plant, a wastewater treatment plant. The water is filtered and rich in phosphorus and nitrogen.
The park features a dog park, playground equipment, sports fields, and splash pad. It’s open 6 am to 10:30 pm daily. The park is also equipped with concessions stands, restrooms, and a dog area. The dog park is divided into three sections.
Splash pad
Located at 8755 N. 83rd Avenue, Peoria, Arizona, the Splash pad at Pioneer Community Park will give local families a new playground and splash area to enjoy in the city’s downtown area. The new park was constructed with the goal of encouraging community pride and helping to foster growth in the area.
The park features a large splash pad, a dog park, baseball and soccer fields, and a lake. There is also a community garden and picnic/bbq areas.
The splash pad at Pioneer Community Park is open daily from 10 am to 8 pm. There is shaded areas, a fun water wheel, and a lot of ground sprays. It is a free park to visit.

Dog area
Located just west of US 60, the dog area at Pioneer Community Park offers a wide variety of recreational activities for dogs and humans alike. The dog area is well maintained and is a great place to socialize with your canine companion. There are poop bag stations and water fountains for humans as well.
In addition to the dog area, the park also boasts a splash pad and a fishing lake. The lake is great for a picnic or a stroll around. The water is a bit too shallow for swimming, but you can still enjoy the scenery.
There are three other community parks in the Peoria area. The foothills, Alta Vista and Scotland Yard are all notable and provide ample off-leash recreation opportunities.
The most important dog-related amenity is the Splash Pad, which is open April 15 – October 15. The park features a reservable ramada, which is a clever way to get your furry friends to leave the leash behind.
Horseshoe area
Located north of Phoenix, the Horseshoe Reservoir is a 2,800 acre lake that is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The reservoir is a nice place to cool off, but it isn’t for the faint of heart. The reservoir offers a tranquil setting, but it’s also difficult to access. You’ll need a high clearance vehicle to get to the shoreline.
In addition to being the largest of its kind in the metro area, the Horseshoe is a great place to go for a day of fishing. The lake is stocked with a variety of fish, including channel catfish and largemouth bass.
The reservoir is also a popular destination for kayaking. You can rent a single or double kayak, and there are several ramadas available for picnics.
